Kevo = Drunko: So last night was Kevin's hour of power. What an hour of power it was! Ol' Kev took it like the champ that he is and just downed everything that we put in front of him (although at times he didn't want to). While we were at the bar he was doing great, even though he only remembers the first 15 min. that we were there. Then when we got home the fun started. Puke...Puke...Puke.... Well, needless to say, we're goin' to have to clean up Kevin's carpet (for more than one reason!) sometime this week. All in all, everything went great, and I think he had a good birthday. There was a great turnout for the birthday boy, and there was much documentation that took place. To see the pics, click HERE.

JR Giddens: Just leave it up to JR Gidden's to make himself and Kansas look horrible again. Apparently the Kansas "star" (if you will) is in more trouble. Apparently we didn't give him a hard enough time when he came to Lincoln last year. Now the robbing of Wal-Mart is going to look like a small blemish on his criminal record. It just so happens that last night he got in a bar fight outside of a bar. There were multiple stabbings and multiple Kansas basketball players (former and current) at the scene. Some guy was yelling at Giddens, so instead of fighting him by himself, he got TEN PEOPLE TO HELP. Ten on one... maybe he should bring those numbers to the basketball court and he'd look like the all-star that he was supposed to be. Personally, I think his career fell apart when he gave up against LeBron James in the high school dunk contest. Also the picture that I'm showing here is very, very fitting. Thanks to the creative soul at the last NU-KU basketball for this!

Cooking: I can't wait until I'm married. Sure it's a weird thing to say, and especially for people to read, but I just can't wait. Christi and I put together one top notch meal today in under and hour. Don't believe me? Just ask our food critics Adam and Jenni. The menu: Garlic Parmesan Potatoes, Homemade Mac & Cheese, and Marinated Teriyaki Rib Eyes (steaks are courtesy of Erich and Joyce as usual). The meal was phenomenal. I love being in the kitchen with Christi just cookin', it's fun and relaxin'. So I'm in a huge cookin' mood now, so if you are in town, or have any suggestions, you better stop by the 436 and let me know.

BAM!: So as of late, I've been in the mood to cook up some good food. I don't mean just buy stuff from the store and throw it on the grill or the stove, I mean make up some good seasoning and marinades and make some tasty food. I've been thinking about doing this for a while now, and it'd be a nice relaxing thing to do when I came home from work. Go out to the store, grab some food, and come home and turn it into a cuisine. I guess this is good news for Adam and Kevin... as long as I don't screw up. It must've been the Emeril show today that put me over the edge.

Beat Down: Hats off to John Ponec & Co. for giving the Staplehurst baseball team a little reality check on Saturday afternoon. The Panthers suffered an 8-3 loss, but still find themselves in first by 1.5 games and much in the hunt for a chance to play at Haymarket Field. With our top two pitchers out and our offense being non-existent, the Stormers were able to take game 1 of 2 from the Panthers. Although the loss is a setback, it's not as much of a setback as it is to think that we could be playing ball in Florida right now....
D1 Presence
May 22, 2005
In the last two days, I've been in the presence of two former starting Huskers. On Friday, I decided to grab a bite to eat after I dropped Zach off at Beta, and get some food at Mr. Goodcents. As I'm sitting there eating my sub, no other person than Joe Dailey and his gf sit down right next to me to enjoy theirs. Now, if it would've been anyone else on the team, I would've been ecstatic. But I think by him sitting there, it might have actually brought me down for the day... then last night, I went to Ponec's graduation party. Good party all around. I didn't think I would know anyone there to talk to, but I did find some people and it turned out OK. The "highlight" of the night (besides talkin' to John), was talkin' to John's old high school buddy Colin Shockey (who just happened to play center field for us last year). What a great guy. I've seen him on the field a bunch, but never really sat down and talked to him. Him and I hung around each other for a good portion of the night just talkin' about baseball and the MVC. This might have been the greatest surge of ex-Husker presence that I've ever seen in a two day span.
eBay
May 20, 2005
I love eBay. I absolutely love it. My video card was going out in my computer, so I decided to buy a new one. I didn't want to just buy one to get around with, I wanted to buy one that would last me for the next 5 years. So I got a good one. XTasy ATI x800xt. Since it was on eBay, I got it for about $175 off! So I'm pumped. Here's my card if you want to see what it looks like. If you know anything about video cards, you'll be drooling like I am:
Star Wars Ep. 3
So last night I did it, I can say that at a point in my lifetime I saw a movie on the opening night. I know that this isn't going to get me a free bowl of soup or anything like that, but it's kind of cool that I can say I saw a movie on opening night of the best movie series ever produced. The movie was amazing. The evil aspects of it were done flawlessly. They did quite an amazing job portraying Anakin as someone confused , but leading toward the dark side. But then there was the love scenes... wow... horrible... wow... Natalie Portman should have never been in the movie. She was horrible. That kind of brought the movie down a notch, but I guess it's how it is, and how it has to go. Zach came in to see it with me, so that was pretty cool. I haven't hung out with that guy in a while, and it was good to see him again.
The Boats
May 19, 2005
I just got back from my first trip gambling with Drew about 5 minutes ago. I know, I know, it took me a whopping 4 days since my 21st birthday to go out there. Drew did amazing. He decided to play some quarters from inside his car (where he won 30.50 in the first minute we were there), then he won 30 on blackjack for the night. I didn't have the greatest night ever. Only losing 20 bucks, but I'll be back sometime for some revenge (hopefully next time we can get more people to go with us). On the bright side, Drew and I traveled for a while down 84th street to find a Taco Bell. We finally found one and I got to eat a Cheesy Gordita Crunch!Star Wars: With Kevin and Adam's Star Wars marathon the other night, it got me thinking that I should watch the second one (or the fifth for those who count in order of release times) so I can get familiar with what is going on. So for Thursday night, I ordered tickets online to see it on opening day in Lincoln. Zach's coming in (haven't seen him in a while), and Adam and Allison are also coming. I think we are goin' to Bison Witches before the movie to eat and get some cheap $1 draws.
The Bachelor
May 16, 2005
This shouldn't be the place to boast, but I'm doing quite well picking reality tv winners. I didn't even know that The Bachelor was on tonight until Christi and I had already picked out a movie. So Donna asked who I liked, and of course I just blurted out, "the blonde one." Goes to show you, she wouldn't have been the one that I would've picked, but I got it right. That's 3 for my last 3! Project Runway: I said it was Jay from the first day. The Bachelorette: The guy I picked from day 1 was there, but on the final rose night, I said she wouldn't take either... and she didn't. Then tonight, I picked out of the blue, and got it right. So high fives all around. Well, just wanted to write that in tonight, I feel good that I am one who opposes reality tv, yet I have a knack for picking the winner.
Coincidence
May 15, 2005
Well, I was going through the Braves photos today since Chipper and Andruw hit homers in the same game, two days in a row. Pretty sweet. Hopefully the Jones Bro's can do that when Christi and I visit Atlanta later this summer. Anyways, to get back on track, I came across a picture that looked very familiar to one of Ben and I up at Iowa State:

For those of you that know [pete yorn] you know where my title came from. Really good night at the bars last night. I had a great 21st birthday. Many thanks to Adam, Ben, Ned, and Jake for taking me out last night and buying me some drinks. And an even bigger thanks to Christi for being with me the whole night, and the next morning to make sure I was ok. What can I say? I just have a great group of friends that take care of me.For as far as I can remember, we went to Barrymore's, The Brass Rail, Duffy's, (the place next to Main Street), and I can't remember the name of the last place where I had my adios. Anyways, it was a great night, but my head hurts a little this morning. I'm becoming more and more familiar with my bathroom in the past 12 hours. Oh yeah, I saw Jake Mulheisen at the bars and got a picture with him. Pics will be up shortly!
Tonight
May 14, 2005
As some of you might know, today is my birthday. It's not just a birthday, it's the big one. The big two-one. It's the last exciting birthday until you get to be 40 and you get thrown a surprise party that's in all black. Today was good so far. Adam, Christi and I went out to the North 40 and hit golf balls on the practice range. It's fun hitting golf balls. I never really got into golf when I was a little kid, and my parents love the game. So it's been nice tryin' to fix my swing twice in the same week. I might have to practice up so that I can play when Christi and I go down to Missouri to the big Helge family reunion in July.My parents are coming to town in a few minutes to take Christi and I out to Misty's.... yeah, is your mouth watering just hearing the name Misty's? I'm so pumped. Plus, I might get carded too. I don't want to wait all this time in my life to not get carded. That's half of the fun of being 21 (or at least I've heard, I've only been 21 for a day so far). Then it's off to the bars tonight. Ponec, Ben, Adam, Christi, Drew and others will be escorting me from bar to bar and hopefully I can make it home all in one piece. Thanks to Christi for being there to take care of me tonight, 'cause I'm probably goin' to need it...
New Job
May 13, 2005
So my streak of finding jobs just continues. Starting next Monday, I will be working on re-designing the graduate admissions web site for the computer engineering department. Much thanks to taking cse378 (Human Computer Interaction) this last semester, as our professor said there were internships available after our final presentation. I was one of three lucky students to land the job. So as a nice recap to everyone following along with my schedule:Web Site Internship from next May until sometime around the end of June.
Webmaster position at student involvement from August through the end of the Spring semester.
"I" before "Y"?
May 12, 2005
So it's happened to me on more than one occasion. When going to a restaurant or putting my name down for anything, I say "Brian", and they always ALWAYS ALWAYS write "Bryan." What's the deal with that? When did that ever become the norm? How many people do you know named "Bryan"? Seriously. Seriously now. I don't know anyone. So according to me, "Brian" is the correct spelling and "Bryan" should be reserved to name hospitals. Let me know what you think.
Job Searching
Well, I did land some good money from the Husker Home Run Club web site that I made. But the fact that my job doesn't start until August puts me in a predicament here. I need to find a job for the next 2.5 months to stay on my feet (so to say). The ideal thing would be to find a couple of web sites to do over the summer, but I'm not sure how likely that'll be. So, I might just have to sit here, be unemployed, and maybe pick up "the star" and see what kind of jobs they have to offer in there.Omaha Day: Kind of a bust. I think the only thing that got accomplished was that we went to the Creighton game. Everything kinda fell apart. I was disappointed, but now it's going to be a lot easier to have Seward Day be better than Omaha Day. I think Omaha Day is tentatively scheduled for a later date in time, so hopefully we can make it all work out.
Shopping
May 9, 2005
So today I decided to go out and spice up my wardrobe a little bit. By a little bit, I mean a ton for me. I not only stepped inside, but purchased clothing from two stores that I haven't been in for a good year or two. I got two really nice pairs of shorts at American Eagle and the Buckle. So if you see me a little more dressed up preppy style than I usually am, that's the reason.Staplehurst: Not much to comment on here. We took care of business against the Dodgers tonight. We 10-runned them 11-1 in 8 innings. Improving the record to 6-0, and increasing the possibilities of playing at Haymarket.
Omaha Day: I almost forgot. Tomorrow is Omaha day. The agenda includes:
1) Stopping by the Stoll's, VanKat's and Donna Roach's places of residence.
2) Visiting North High School during a passing period.
3) Going to Midwest Customs (thanks to Chris's hookups) to see some sweet rides.
4) Eating at a place to be determined tomorrow.
5) Watching Nebraska and Creighton face off in the final baseball game of their series at Rosenblatt Stadium.
It should be lots of fun. I'm really looking forward to it, and I really might have the pressure put on me to get Seward day to be even close to how good tomorrow is going to turn out.
Regionals
May 8, 2005
So those boys up at Eau Claire sure showed us that they know something about baseball even if they are that close to Canada. After getting beat by one of the best pitchers in the nation in game 1, Austin threw an amazing game to win game 2. That brings us to the final game. It was a thriller, and we had the lead 4-3 with one out to go in the top of the 7th. Then their big hitter crushed a grand slam (along with our hopes and dreams), and sent the blugolds (worst school nickname ever?) to Florida instead of the 'skers. But there's always next year. And I think we all have some sort of revenge on mind...Good News: I came home from the long 9 hour drive to find that my new track jacket had arrived from across the seas. It fits, and I love it, so that's good. Plus, the Braves have won 5 in a row, and saw Mike Hampton throw a 2 hitter, hit a solo home run, and face one batter above the minimum as they swept the Astro's. But once again, I show my disgust as the jerseys are still horrible, and need to be changed:

Staplehurst
May 5, 2005
What a game we had tonight against the Tigers. A battle until the final out at Densmore fields. Thanks to Clint's late 3-run home run, we prevailed and stayed undefeated in the LABL. No thanks to me, however, as I went a dissapointing 0-4 and probably couldn't hit my way out of a wet paper sack. But that's baseball, and it happens. Gizmo even came to watch today. As I told Christi, he wasn't happy with my performance, and chewed me out at the end of the game (no pun intended)*.Finals: Finals are over now. Thank goodness. I only had two, but I had a paper and a project that prevented heavy studying for those two. Although, I think I did ok (well, you can judge for yourself with my grade listing on my home page). So since the game is over, and finals are over, it's time to celebrate Cinco De Mayo. Time for some drinking... you know, water, juice, 'cause I'm not 21 until another week or so.....
Wisconsin: Ben and I will be MIA for the weekend as we are playing with the UNL Club Baseball team up in Wisconsin for regionals. We just need to win 2 of 3 to make it to the World Series down in Florida. Oh.... a week in Florida..... wow, that'd be nice!
Job Interview
May 4, 2005
So today I had my job interview with Student Involvement in the Union. Good group of people working there. The interview took around 40 min. or so, but when everything was said and done, they offered me the job. So starting August 1st 2005, you're looking at the head webmaster for Student Involvement. And let me tell you, these people have a huge database. So needless to say, I'm going to be pretty busy taking 17 hrs. next semester and working 15-20 hrs. a week. Well, that's the good news, time to study for my final now.Michael Vick a.k.a. "Ron Mexico"
May 3, 2005
After being the overall selection in the 2001 NFL draft and signing the largest contract in NFL history, is there anything going wrong in Michael Vick's life? Well, I guess the fame and the money is good, but the fact that you are being sued for giving someone herpes and using the alias "Ron Mexico" might not help your superstar status all that much. Michael Vick, or Ron Mexico as his STD tests are concerned, may be in trouble with the courts for giving a woman an STD while he knew he had the disease. We know Vick doesn't throw a lot, so when someone catches something we hear about it*. Move over Alge Crumpler, Vick's got a new favorite receiver. Forget winning the Super Bowl, it might look nice to show up to court with your hair cut.Apparently eBay is having a killing selling fake Ron Mexico jerseys and memorabilia. Thanks to Ponec for pointing out what all of us have so wrongfully passed over this last month.

Finals
So it's 6:38 in the a.m., and I have a final that starts in less than an hour. What better to do than read over and over my endless EE examples? Of course, write on my blog. This final can't end soon enough, and once it's over, that's good enough for me.... it'll be over. Then a history one on Thursday morning, then a HUGE [LABL] game against the Tigers Thursday night. If you have nothing better to do, and you're done with finals, I suggest coming down to Densmore park to watch the best defensive team in the league (them) battle it out with the best offensive team in the league (duh, us).UGLY
May 1, 2005
I'm not sure what the Braves were thinking.... but as they delve deeper and deeper into the season, there are more and more Sunday home games. And what do Sunday home games imply? "Alternate home uniforms." I was glad to see that the Braves won, got Smoltz his second win, and tie for the division lead, but it's really tough to cheer on your team when they look like they do. I don't know if it's marketing or what, but hopefully no one buys these jerseys, and instead of seeing a profit, the marketing people are only seeing red*.
