v 2.0
Dec 31, 2005
In case you haven't noticed, the site has changed a little bit. I'm not a huge fan of the frames, but this was the only way that I could get the flash on the top to not load every time that someone came to the page.I'm not crazy about it right now, it was just a thought and a good idea. Who knows, we might see v 3.0 here sometime soon in the near future.
Ended at the 5 yard line
Dec 29, 2005
Boise decided to cancel my undefeated streak as they couldn't score having the ball 1st and goal at the 5 yard line with 55 seconds left in the game. It's OK though since I didn't have many points on them. I guess I didn't have a lot on Nebraska (only 1), but at least I didn't lose points like everyone else who went against the Huskers and picked Michigan. I'm still standing ok:Points gained so far: 155
Points wagered so far: 162
Percentage of points gained: 96%
Record this bowl season: 10-1

Dream's still alive!
Dec 27, 2005
The streak continues. Tomorrow might be a different story though as I picked Nebraska. Huge underdog that I'd personally love to see win huge (or win at all) tomorrow. Everyone's helped me out so far, so cross your fingers again for two huge upsets tomorrow: Nebraska and Boise State.Points gained so far: 154
Points wagered so far: 154
Percentage of points gained: 100%
Record this bowl season: 9-0
Perfection Still Upon Us
DeAngelo Williams ran his way to two NCAA records last night, and ran all over the Zips defense as well, Memphis held on for me, and picked up some much needed points. Here's where I'm at:Points gained so far: 118
Points wagered so far: 118
Percentage of points gained: 100%
Record this bowl season: 7-0
I'm a fourth of the way to a perfect bowl season. Everyone out there, keep your fingers crossed for Clemson and Arizona State tonight!
Still rollin'
Dec 26, 2005

Points wagered so far: 106
Percentage of points gained: 100%
Record this bowl season: 6-0
6 down, 22 more to go. Hope is high for the running game of Memphis tonight.
'Tis the Season
Dec 24, 2005
It's the season for giving. I am all about this, and love giving gifts out. However, there is a point that must not be crossed during these holiday times. Remember, no matter how naugthy (or nice) someone is, these two gifts should never be given out during the holidays:1)

Mighty Mangino
Kansas rolled over the hometown favorites last night in a spectacular 42-13 win. How could you pick against the men in blue? They have one of the best defenses in the nation and when your team name is Kansas, and you make a bowl game, you damn well better play your hearts out .... and they did! Nice work KU. Way to get the Big XII off on the right foot so far.Points gained so far: 91
Points wagered so far: 91
Percentage of points gained: 100%
Record this bowl season: 5-0
Everyone cross your fingers for a Nevada win in Hawaii tonight!
Lighter Side of Baseball
Dec 22, 2005
In the past few days (as most of you have heard), Johnny Damon has left the Boston Red Sox to go to the rival New York Yankees. Personally, I find this hilarious. I could care less about the whole Sox-Yanks thing that's going on, or anything like that. I just find it funny because there are sooooo many people out there that became Red Sox fans for the sole purpose that they won it all and broke the streak. With that, there was the fan base that followed the Red Sox players. The biggest of them all is no other than Johnny Damon. Sorry that everyone just spent their life savings on the replica #18 jerseys and the life size cut out of Johnny. The Braves are my team, and everyone can give me crap (since it's happened a lot) about liking a winning team. But the people who know me, know that I like them for a legit and good reason. With this, after McGriff parted ways and said goodbye to baseball, I began to like the style of play that Chipper carried on and off the field. Here's a great example of a player not carrying about the dollar signs in professional sports:
Link to Chipper's good deeds. Just goes to show that you can be an all-star and not care about the dollar signs (yes, I'm talking to you Damon .... and you Furcal!)
Also in this whole Johnny Damon "mess", it appears that the Red Sox fans (and bandwagon fans) are beginning to send some hate mail into ESPN. Here's the best quotes so far:
"If the Yankees are the evil empire, and the Red Sox are the jedi, undoubtedly Johnny Damon is Anikin Skywalker becoming Darth Vader. The only question left is who is Luke?"
"Johnny Damon just stole Christmas."
"Remember the SNL skit from the 90's labeled "Steroid Olympics" and that guy tries to dead lift 900lbs and as he jerks up, both arms rip clean off his shoulders and are still attached to the barbell on the floor and blood is spurting out everywhere from his shoulder sockets? ... I hope Damon's arm comes flying off while he is trying to make a throw home and his hand and arm are still attached to the ball as it weekly lands in front of A-Rods foot and then A-Rod vomits and passes out and Joe Torre has to come out and give mouth to mouth to A-Rods bloated purple lips ... That would ease the pain of this trade."
"Johnny Damon: looks like Jesus, throws like Mary, and betrays like Judas ..."
There are also many other great quotes that you can check out for yourself.
Rockets Fly High
Toledo helped out a bunch last night. I could care less about Carson Palmer's brother from UTEP. If he was really that good, he wouldn't be playing for the Miners!Points on this game: 11
Points issued so far: 39
Points won so far: 39
Bowl Record for 2005: 2/2
Percentage of points won: 100%
It's a good start so far, but both of my parents have 55 points right now ... so I have some catching up to do.
Bowl Season
Dec 21, 2005
This year's bowl season started well for me on day 1:Points on the game: 28
Points issued so far: 28
Pecentage of points won: 100%
Southern Miss even did my favorite play on a 3rd and 1 situation in a crucial part of the game: the statue of liberty play.
Make Your Plans Early
I know that a lot of people (including myself) have a set tradition that they hold every year during the holidays. The date that I'm talking about is December 24th. Most people spend this time to be with family, enjoying early Christmas celebrations, or maybe (to a lesser extent) watching the Sheraton Hawaii bowl. This year, I'm going to have to get up super early on the 25th to watch SportsCenter. The reason is because of Chad Johnson.I hate the NFL. But for some reason, like everyone else, I absolutely love crazy end zone celebrations. T.O. was the origin to this craze, and Johnson has taken over lately. The only reason that I say that I'm going to watch SportsCenter on the 25th is because of this quote that he issued for his game on the 24th:
Football News
Dec 20, 2005
Bad news all over the place:1) Wali Muhammad is out for the bowl game. Must be really tough to follow team policies for another 3 weeks ....
2) Bo Ruud broke his arm the other day with 4 plays left in practice. Won't be suiting up for the Alamo Bowl.
3) Josh Freeman just decommited and left for Kansas State. I guess we really have to trust in Beck now.
NU BBALL
Dec 17, 2005
Just got home from the basketball game with my mom, and what a game it was. I figured that playing Chicago State would be a walk in the park, and be a nice boost for the Huskers, but it turned out to be so much more than that:1) Early through the first half, the Huskers were losing (only up 1 at halftime), and were in danger of having the baseball team put up more on the scoreboard than the basketball team. It might have happened if the game wasn't stopped after 7 innings.
2) Alec Maric looks good in a suit. No clue why he didn't play (maybe he was in that fight with McCray earlier), but it didn't matter. Just nice to know that the Men's Big & Tall was able to get him in right before the game. Don't be surprised if you see that same suit when he gets drafted in '08.
3) Royce Parran might be Dicky V's player of the week/month/year. If he's not, he's all three of those for me. Parran didn't even start, dropped 25, countless 3's, and is one of two players that is smaller than Charles Richardson. Flat out, this kid can play. Plus, the whole night he was doing And One moves trying to juke people. He even got mismatched on Schliep, juked him, made Schliep fall straight backwards and sunk another three .... he was just fun and amazing to watch.
4) Holbein is back. I repeat, Holbein is back. They showed my good friend up on the big screen, and I made my way over and talked to him for a little bit. It seems that Steve Peterson gave him season tickets in the last seats with backs on them in C23. If you know of anyone that sits up there, go talk to Holbein. The man can teach you something about basketball (as well as how to yell at the refs).
5) Joe McCray is back as well. Joe had an amazing night, and even won over a few fans that were sitting around me. I think I spoke too soon when I said he isn't even the best player from his high school on our team. It was really good to see him come out and have a hell of a game. Must've been the new shoes that he was sporting.
Along came Microsoft
Dec 16, 2005
Apparently, Google is starting to take over the digital world. One of the coolest features that they have is Google Earth. It seems that this has leaked to Bill Gates, and he is not to be out done. Microsoft has come up with a version of their own (Windows Live Local) that takes it one step further by showing you some nice 3d pictures.
Welcome Home
Erica's plane lands in Omaha around 6 tonight. It'll be good having her back for Christmas and seeing her again. I just hope she remembers what good ol' Nebraska is like since she complained to me the other day that it was 60° outside and one morning the sea lions woke her up.Hopefully we'll have a good time while she's here, and at Bill and Linda's Christmas party tonight!
EXCITING NEWS!
Dec 12, 2005

That's right everyone. Adam was a preliminary selection to go study abroad (and finish his schooling) in Japan during the fall semester of '06. Once he clears waivers and passes his drug test, he'll be good to go.
On the downside of this, it really sucks that we'll all be without Adam for a couple of months (this especially applies to Jenni). But, this is one of those 'once in a lifetime' opportunities that you really can't pass up. Plus, he's been telling us that he's going to be going to Japan for the past two years, and we never thought it would actually happen!
Congrats Adam. I hope you have fun, and we'll be sure to have a good time with you until you go.
More Happenings

8) Jake and I are progressing well on kernels. We hope to have all of main implementation done tomorrow morning, and are preparing for the testing stage.9) Professor Costello rocks. Today I not only received a grade offer of an A (no final!), but he also gave me a Navajo coin symbolizing my great work during the semester .... don't worry, Tim got one too, and finally got some credit.
10) brianhelge.com v 2.0 is coming soon. It's just a screen shot and an idea right now, but I have a master plan for it, and hope to have it up before the clock strikes 12.
Where to begin?
First and foremost, a shout out to where a shout out is due:1) Congrats to Ben for landing an internship starting in June.
2) With that, we will need a new roommate sometime in the summer. If you know of anyone, or want to get put on the waiting list, be sure to email me. Plus, the Asian looks to be moving out next Fall to somewhere out to the far east .... so really, let me know. The rent is nice, and the landlords couldn't be cooler!
3) I'm almost done with my 307 lab. Tim and I have been trying to muster it out for quite some time now. We got the 10+ page paper done last night (at the expense of a NU basketball game, again) and it can be seen HERE and HERE.
4) In the last week, the Braves lost Furcal and Estrada, but picked up Renteria today. He's a good shortstop (outside of Boston), but he's no Furcal, and he never will be.
5) Apparently winning 4 big XII north titles in the last 5 years isn't quite good enough. It probably doesn't help too much either when you lose your last two games a combined 100-6. Ouch. I'm sure he has Frank's phone number. They should get together and really discuss what went wrong in life.
6) School sucks. I have 2 finals left, and a HUGE kernels project that I'm doing with Jake. Hopefully we can get it completed since the fate of our class grade depends on it.
7) Work's awesome. Sunday night (yes, before my early Monday final), my boss Tom is taking everyone in the SIIS staff out for some laser tag and dinner at DaVinci's afterwards. Once again, I can't thank my babe enough for finding me this job, work on campus is awesome, and Tom sure does rock.
Should've seen this one coming

Ghosts and those crazy British
Dec 1, 2005
My whole life I've gone with the notion of there is no such thing as aliens, ufo's or ghosts. It was just how I was raised and brought up. But when I watched this video, it really changed my mind. I'm not sure how or why, but it just did.
Before you click here to watch the video, if it loads before you are done reading the right hand side, pause the movie, finish reading, and then play the video. Be sure to let me know what you think. You really have to listen to the guy that's holding the camera. He's probably the main reason that I believe what I saw, and I'm changing my beliefs. At first I didn't really believe it .... but now there is a part of me that does.
