A $2,500 Lesson
Nov 27, 2007
I've heard the term "second place is the first loser" numerous times over my life, but I never thought much of it. It's just one of those axioms that I've never analyzed too much, but I'm pretty sure that won't be the case anytime in the near future. For the past 3 years or so, I've been picking 10 college football games (straight up) for my dad each week. He's in this national trucking pick'em type of thing, and we usually see how we can do. The weekly winner receives a $200 gift certificate to a sporting memorabilia store, and I always thought it would be cool to collect some more autographed baseballs if I was ever lucky enough to win.
Dad just got emailed with the final results for the last week, and like always, I wasn't able to beat everyone out to win the $200. After this non-shocking factor went by, dad told me that we finished 2nd for the entire season. Looking at the pdf file he sent me, I was shocked to see that 1st place received $2,500 to Best Buy. Naturally, I searched the fine print to see what 2nd place receives: a nice slap in the face. I learned a valuable lesson today that 1st place is much better than 2nd.
As Christi mentioned when I told her, I'll enjoy my slap in the face. I guess it's better than coming in last.

I'm assuming that most people who buy a house, and have a way to communicate with people online, would normally post up some pictures within the first week of moving in. But then I found out that most people who buy a house have a ton of stuff to do in that first week. I promise that pictures of the house will come soon.
In the meantime, Christi and I picked up a new roommate to fill some of the empty void at our place. We decided to get Christi an early bday present and went and got ourselves a chocolate lab named Stanley.
Seriously though, when I get some free time (which seems to be sparse now with a dog), I'll get a nice gallery of house and dog pictures up on the site. Until then, you'll just have to use the picture above.

New Site - v5.0
Nov 15, 2007
I was 14 days late on my promise for the launch date of my new redesign. I would've loved to keep up the one year tradition of launching a new look every Halloween, but with the new house and everything, I had to push it back a few weeks. So, here it is. There are 4 different color choices to pick from, so find your favorite, and my code will do the rest. It will load your color choice the next time you come back.
Comments/criticism are always appreciated.
Thanks.
Baseball in November?
Nov 14, 2007
Yeah, that's right. We're a month removed from the World Series, but there's no reason in my mind not to talk baseball. Looking for a new LightBox script to implement on the new version of my site (yes, it's coming soon), I went back to the tried and true original lightbox version. For those that know, this was created by Lokesh Dhakar. Through my searches I stumbled upon his site and saw a nice post that described how different pitches are supposed to act. Reading the post, it seems like ol' Lokesh hasn't had much experience stepping on a field and experiencing these pitches first hand, but that didn't matter. I think his illustrations are great and they provide a very nice example of how pitches are supposed to move.

Cabela's at the Kuhlmans
Nov 12, 2007
Besides Ganz amazing performance on Saturday en route to a hopeful all-america player of the week award, there was something else that impressed me a little bit more.Bill and Linda were contacted by Cabela's on Tuesday to see if they could rent out their house and tape two 30 second commercials over this past weekend. They accepted and spent Friday-Sunday lodged up at the Embassy Suites.
Christi and I went out for the regular Sunday night dinner at gma's yesterday, and when we were done, we snuck over to the Kuhlman's to watch the last of the taping. We were there for a good half hour and only saw a portion where there is a guy sitting in a 16' tree saying, "Ohhh ... what's in that box? Binoculars?"
So if you're surfing around the tube and see a Cabela's holiday commercial, more than likely, it was shot in the home of the Kuhlman's.
