Leaving the mountains

Around 12:30 p.m. MST, Christi and I will be driving into the cornfields with the sun at our backs. A couple days of getting a few things finalized, then it's time to wear jewelry for the rest of my life.

On a very exciting side note, the TBS-WGN showdown begins tonight. Yep, you guessed it. I finally get to watch Braves games on TV with good decent announcers.

One week

It's going to be T-minus 7 days from here on out. Unless you've been married before, you probably have no clue how many little things there are to do. It's quite amazing.

Here's to one week.

Only with Colorado high school baseball

Within a week, I experienced two firsts for coaching/playing/watching baseball. The first one is sort of crazy, but the second one is unreal:

1) Last week, we had a pitcher throw the entire 7 innings, and gave up only one hit (solo home run). We lost. 6-5. That's right. We gave up one hit, one earned run, and lost the game 6-5. Sort of crazy.

2) Last night the unthinkable happened. I even called up Ponec to see if his baseball mastermind has heard of this. Nope. Not even Ponec. Here's what went down:

We went through 3 catchers ... in the first inning ... before an out was recorded. Unreal.

I'm not sure if I have to say anything else, or even go into detail on how that transpired. It was just unreal. Maybe even surreal to a point.

Come on ESPN, where's the love?

Last night, ESPN had to dedicate, what seemed like, over half of their SportsCenter program to the Japan vs. Japan (a.k.a. Dice-K vs. Ichi) game. What a flop. I'm not saying it wasnt' a good story or anything, I'm just a little pissed that the Brave's aren't getting any respect.

Sure it's only 8 games into the season, but they have the best record in baseball, and hold at least a game advantage over any other division leader. Maybe I'm biased (which of course I am), but talk about it instead of bringing it up in passing over the 20 second highlight they showed.

Of course, they'll probably lose the next 10 in a row after this post, but at least they were on top sometime this year.

Lomax wins, destroys the competition

As many of you know, with our wedding invites, we asked people to fill out a blank recipe card so that we could get a fun assortment of ideas as a married couple. We've received some great ones, thoughtful ones, in depth ones, but nothing, and I do stress here that nothing was able to beat the one that Andy Lomax sent in.

He sent me an email telling me that it was a family recipe passed down through the generations, and wasn't sure if he wanted me to spread the secret, but I'm sure it will be ok.

Ingredients:
1 box of Easy Mac
1/4 cup milk
1 spoon full butter

Directions:
Boil water, pour mac in, stir occasionally for 8 to 10 minutes.
Strain out water, mix in milk, cheese packet, and spoon of butter.
Stir until delicious! Enjoy.

No one was more creative than that. It's not that your recipe was bad, it's just that Lo's was hilarious.

Extra Extra: Braves love the free baseball

2 games down. 2 extra inning games. 2 wins.

The Braves are fun to watch (again) this year, and they are winning some nail biters. Trailing in the 8th and 9th innings, respectively, the Braves tied both games up, sent them to extras, and then won them. On the road.

The most exciting part is that they've scored every single run this year on the long ball. Maybe this early new found glory will have Ted Turner reconsidering about selling the team, so I can watch the Braves on TBS past 2007.

Twenty days until the 21st

The day of reckoning is vastly coming upon us. Only 20 days until I'll be wearing a ring for the rest of my life. Although 20 days is really close, it still hasn't sunk in yet, and still doesn't feel like it's really that close.

Either way, we're both extremely excited for that day, and are really looking forward to seeing a lot of people that we haven't seen in quite some time.

As for the sports side of life, the worst possible scenario happened: the basketball championship will be a rematch of the BCS title game. Damn. If UCLA would've won it all, Christi would've made money, and I would've made some cash if G'town would've taken home the title.

I wish I could say, "April Fool's," I had Florida and Ohio State. But I don't. I'm not sure if I even want to watch on Monday now. It's been a pretty pathetic tournament so far. Too many high seeds advancing and no buzzer beaters.
